Big Tooth Boca is a full-service pediatric dental office providing care for children from infancy through their teenage years. As a pediatric dentist in Boca Raton, our team focuses on age-appropriate dental care designed around each child’s oral health needs and comfort.
We provide preventive care, dental emergency services, dental sealants, silver diamine fluoride, dental imaging, nitrous oxide, and hospital dentistry. Our goal is to help children maintain healthy teeth while creating positive dental experiences as they grow.
Preventative Care
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children establish a dental home by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing, whichever comes first. Regular dental visits allow our team to monitor your child’s oral health, provide professional cleanings and examinations, and identify potential concerns early.
During routine visits, we also provide parents with guidance on brushing, flossing, nutrition, fluoride, and other age-appropriate habits that support healthy teeth and gums.
Dental Emergencies
Dental injuries, severe toothaches, swelling, and other unexpected dental problems can require prompt attention. Our team provides care for pediatric dental emergencies and works with families to evaluate the problem and determine the appropriate treatment.
If your child experiences a dental emergency during regular office hours, contact our office as soon as possible. For serious injuries or medical emergencies, seek immediate medical attention.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth. They fill the deep grooves and pits where food particles and plaque can collect, helping reduce the risk of cavities in these areas.
Sealants are quick to apply and can be especially helpful for children whose newly erupted permanent molars have deep grooves that are difficult to clean with regular brushing.
Silver Diamine Fluoride
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a topical treatment that can be applied to certain cavities to help slow or stop the progression of tooth decay. It may be an option for some children when traditional restorative treatment is difficult or when a minimally invasive approach is appropriate.
SDF does not restore the shape or function of a decayed tooth, and treated areas of active decay typically become dark or black. Our dental team can determine whether SDF is appropriate based on your child’s individual dental needs.
Imaging
Dental imaging helps our team evaluate areas of your child’s mouth that cannot be fully examined during a routine visual examination. Dr. Levin uses digital sensors as well as phosphor plate technology when appropriate.
Different imaging methods have different advantages. Our team selects the imaging technique based on your child’s age, treatment needs, ability to cooperate, and the type of information needed for diagnosis.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, is a mild inhaled option that may help children feel more relaxed during certain dental procedures. It is delivered through a small nasal mask while the child continues to breathe normally.
Nitrous oxide can help reduce anxiety and improve cooperation during dental treatment. The dental team evaluates each child individually to determine whether it is an appropriate option for the planned procedure.
Hospital Dentistry
Some children may need dental treatment in a hospital setting because of their age, developmental needs, medical conditions, inability to cooperate during treatment, or the extent of dental care required.
Dr. Levin partners with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for appropriate patients who require dental treatment under general anesthesia. A pediatric anesthesiologist manages the anesthesia and monitors the child throughout the procedure while Dr. Levin completes the necessary dental treatment.
The anesthesia approach is determined based on the child’s individual medical history, physical condition, dental treatment needs, and other relevant factors.
